Masashi Eriguchi, a four-time national champion in the men's 100 meters, plans to retire soon, sources said Thursday.

Eriguchi, whose personal best time is 10.07 seconds in the 100 meters, will run in Kumamoto on Saturday. If he does not qualify for the next round at this year's National Sports Festival, he is expected to retire.

The 29-year-old won his title in the men's 100 meters at the national championships for four years in a row from 2009 through 2012.

He participated in the 2012 London Olympics, in which he failed to qualify in the 100 meters but competed in the final of the 4x100-meter relay.
