Former major league reliever Johnny Hellweg has signed to play for the Hiroshima Carp, the team announced on Tuesday.

He agreed to an annual salary of $300,000 plus incentives.

Hellweg, a 29-year-old American, made his big league debut with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2013 and went 1-4 with a 6.75 ERA in eight games before going on to various stints in the minors.

The right-hander had a 1-1 record with 11 saves and a 1.33 ERA in 24 games this season for the Indianapolis Indians, the Pittsburgh Pirates' Triple-A affiliate.
