Sprint queen Nao Kodaira credited compatriot and men's figure skating repeat champion Yuzuru Hanyu for her explosive gold medal win in the women's 500 meters at the Pyeongchang Winter Games on Sunday.

Kodaira's new Olympic record time secured Japan's second gold medal of the games, a day after Hanyu became the first men's back-to-back figure skating champion in 66 years.

"I won the gold medal but I have been watching many disciplines and some athletes can't quite medal even though they are vibrant and energetic," said Kodaira, who placed sixth in the 1,500 and won the silver in the 1,000.
