Former Olympian and two-time Osaka Women's Marathon winner Risa Shigetomo announced Thursday that she will retire next March.

"I judged that this is the best time to stop," the 30-year-old said at a press conference.

"I'd like to take a little rest."

Shigetomo placed 79th in the marathon at the 2012 London Olympic Games with a time of 2 hours, 40 minutes, 6 seconds. She competed at the world athletics championships twice, finishing 14th in 2015 at Beijing and 27th at the event earlier this year in London.

The 30-year-old won the Osaka Women's Marathon in 2012, in a career-best finish of 2:23:23, and again earlier this year. The 2012 race marked her first marathon victory and secured her a spot at the London Games.
