Tokyo was selected to host the 2019 World Judo Championships following an International Judo Federation executive committee meeting on Friday.

IJF executive Yasuhiro Yamashita wants the championships to serve as a test event for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with the event set to be held at Nippon Budokan, the Tokyo 2020 judo venue.

The championships are scheduled to be held in the second half of August.

It will be the fourth time that Tokyo has hosted the judo worlds and first since 2010. Chiba (1995) and Osaka (2003) are the other two Japanese cities that have hosted the championships.
