The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles have reached an agreement in principle to sign outfielder Carlos Peguero, a source close to the matter said Friday.

Peguero, currently with St. Louis Cardinals' Triple-A team in Memphis, has hit 179 home runs in the minors along with 13 in the major leagues.

The 29-year-old from the Dominican Republic could provide much-needed firepower to the Eagles offense, which has 286 runs scored, the second-lowest in the Pacific League, after 75 games.

Rakuten has also agreed in principle with outfielder Felix Perez. The 31-year-old has 14 home runs in his native Mexican league.
