Japan wing Akihito Yamada, who is tied for the Super Rugby try-scoring lead, has left the national sevens training camp due to injury, the Japan Rugby Football Union announced Tuesday.
Yamada, who appeared to feel pain in his calf during training on Monday, is still a candidate for the team that will compete in this summer's Rio de Janeiro Olympics according to the JRFU. The team will be announced at the end of this month.
In 12 games for Japan's first Super Rugby franchise, the Sunwolves, Yamada has nine tries. He was also a member of the Brave Blossoms squad that won three of their four games at last year's Rugby World Cup in England.
