Ryuji Sato has been named to referee games in this summer's Rio de Janeiro Olympics, world soccer governing body FIFA announced Monday.

The 39-year-old Sato will be joined by assistant referees Toru Sagara, 39, and Hiroshi Yamauchi, 37, and women's assistant referee Naomi Teshirogi, 35. Sagara officiated four years ago at the London Games, while the rest will be working at their first Olympic tournament.

The Rio men's tournament will employ 16 referees and 32 assistant referees, while the women's event, which will be without Japan's London silver medal-winning team, will use 12 referees and 24 assistants.
