Kobe Kobelco Steelers named former Wallabies and Tonga assistant Jim McKay as their new head coach on Tuesday.
The 49-year-old Australian succeeds Allister Coetzee, who left to take over the Springboks. McKay will be the Steelers' fourth head coach in four years, and will begin working with the team on May 30.
McKay was also the head coach of the Cornish Pirates from 2004-08 and the attack coach with the Queensland Reds from 2009-13, winning the Super Rugby title in 2011.
"He brings to us a wealth of experience," Kobe general manager Seiji Hirao said in a statement. "We've built the foundations of the team over the last few years and we believe his brand of attacking rugby will take us to another level.
"We hope he instills spirit and breeds a winning culture here by getting the most out of our players through his unparalleled coaching credentials."
The Steelers finished fourth in the Top League last season.
