Japan defender Tomoaki Makino threw Urawa Reds an Asian Champions League lifeline with a second-half header as the 2007 winners picked up their first point in Group G with a 1-1 draw at home to Beijing Guoan on Wednesday night.

Yu Dabao put the Chinese in front in the 33rd minute but Makino rose to power for the equalizer, keeping Reds' wafer-thin hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive with two games left.

Group leader Beijing improved to 10 points, with South Korea's Suwon Samsung on seven points after beating Australia's Brisbane Roar 3-1. Brisbane has four points.
