WBC atomweight champion Momo Koseki scored a second-round knockout of Aisah Alico of the Philippines to successfully defend her title for the 15th time on Thursday.

Koseki, who stopped her opponent at 1 minute, 29 seconds of the second round at Tokyo's Korakuen Hall, extended her own record for the most successful title defenses by a Japanese fighter — male or female.

"I wanted to fight a little longer," said Koseki, who improved to 17-0, including seven KOs, and one draw. "I want to burn myself out in the next fight instead of just focusing on numbers (of title defenses.) I want to show that I am even stronger next time."

In a later bout, IBF light flyweight champion Naoko Shibata won a 2-0 decision against sixth-ranked Saemi Hanagata in defense of her third title.

"It was a different atmosphere fighting a Japanese opponent instead of someone from overseas. It was tough," said Shibata. "I'll do my best to show I've grown in my next bout."
