Japan coach Javier Aguirre says he has warned his players about making critical comments about referees at the Asian Cup, but he dismissed suggestions Monday that Keisuke Honda had become a victim of double standards after he was fined $5,000 for slamming an official after the team’s opening 4-0 win over Palestine.

AC Milan attacker Honda, who enjoys A-list celebrity status in Japan, was hit with the fine by the Asian Football Confederation’s disciplinary committee after accusing Qatari referee Abdulrahman Hussain of calling fouls too easily, saying he controlled the Palestine match “like a basketball game.”
