Japan finished eighth in the women's team final at the 2014 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships on Wednesday as the United States won the gold medal for the second time in succession.

Japan qualified in sixth place but mistakes in two apparatus in the first half proved costly as the team finished at the bottom of the standings with 165.422 points.

The Americans, who led the qualifiers, scored 179.280. China took the silver medal.

Eight teams take part in the final with three gymnasts from each team performing on each apparatus. The total score is calculated after four apparatus.
