Daiya Seto outpaced the field en route to winning the men's 200-meter butterfly on the third day of the Japan Open swimming tournament on Saturday.

Seto clocked a time of 1 minute, 54.75 seconds at Tokyo Tatsumi International Swimming Center in the meet, which is also a qualifier for this fall's Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea. Masato Sakai placed second in 1:55.15, while Kosuke Hagino came third in 1:56.57.

Backstroke specialist Ryosuke Irie triumphed in the men's 200 individual medley in a time of 1:59.81 in the absence of Hagino and Seto, both of whom did not compete. Junya Koga won the men's 50 backstroke in 24.69 seconds with Irie trailing in second, 0.48 second behind.

Natsumi Hoshi won the women's 200 butterfly in 2:06.34.
