Japan will be in Pot 3 for Friday's draw for the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil, FIFA announced on Tuesday.
Pot 3 is made up of the teams from Asia and the CONCACAF North and Central America zone: Australia, Costa Rica, Honduras, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, and the United States.
The 32 teams are split into four pots of eight teams. The pot system is used in an attempt to give the groups balance, both in terms of talent and geography.
Eight seeded teams: Brazil, Spain, Germany, Argentina, Colombia, Belgium, Uruguay, and Switzerland are in Pot 1 and will be kept apart for the group stage, have been chosen according to October's world rankings.
England will be among an unseeded pot of nine European countries for the draw scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. local time on Friday (1 a.m. Saturday Japan time).
The teams in Pot 2 are the unseeded South American countries and the qualifiers from Africa: Algeria, Cameroon, Chile, Cote d'Ivoire, Ecuador, Ghana and Nigeria.
Pot 4 holds nine unseeded European teams: Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, England, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal and Russia.
So that the number of teams in each pot is equal, at the start of the draw one of the nine European teams will be put into Pot 2, and will definitely be drawn against one of the seeded South American sides.
