Japan captain Makoto Hasebe was sent off for a foul on Blue Samurai teammate Takashi Inui and Eintracht Frankfurt came from two goals down to hold Wolfsburg 2-2 at home on the final day of the Bundesliga season on Saturday.
Goals from Jan Polak and Diego put Wolfsburg in control but Hasebe was red carded when he brought Inui down in the box from behind and Alexander Meier converted the resulting penalty 10 minutes before the break.
"It was great play from Inui," said Hasebe, who struggled to contain his compatriot before his dismissal.
A Ricardo Rodriguez own goal in the last minute brought Frankfurt level and earned it a place in the Europa League next season as Hamburg was beaten 1-0 at home to Bayer Leverkusen.
