Hakuho motored ahead with a sixth win and Harumafuji posted a morale-boosting victory to get his stuttering campaign to prove his worth as a yokozuna back on track on the sixth day of action at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament on Friday.
Hakuho, seeking a 25th Emperor's Cup, was unfazed by Okinoumi's attempts to register his first win and the Mongolian calmly slapped down the komusubi debutant to make it 8-for-8 in their head-to-head matches.
Hakuho shares the lead at 6-0 with ozeki Kisenosato and Kakuryu and the trio are followed by Aoiyama, Tokitenku and Ikioi at 5-1.
Harumafuji recovered from an early slip and scored an "oshidashi" frontal push out win over No. 3 maegashira Aran (3-3).
In other matches, Kisenosato gave Tochinoshin (0-6) no chance as he quickly bulldozed the second-ranked Georgian over the bales, and Kakuryu preserved his share of the lead when he slapped and thrust his way past sekiwake Goeido (4-2).
Kotooshu (4-2) got a second crack at Aminishiki (1-5) after the first bout had been too close for ringside judges to call, but lost.
Kotooshu needs eight wins here to retain his rank after he withdrew during the spring meet due to injury.
Kotoshogiku could not find his way out of a bear hug from top-ranked Myogiryu (3-3) and also lost his second straight to drop to 4-2.
Bulgarian No. 4 maegashira Aoiyama lost his balance, and with it his unbeaten record, when he was thrust down at the charge by ninth-ranked Ikioi.
Buoyed by his first win of the tournament against Harumafuji on Thursday, komusubi Tochiozan got a second win by forcing out Estonian sekiwake Baruto.
