The Yomiuri Giants will purchase a private power generator so they can play night games at Tokyo Dome this summer, Kyodo News learned on Saturday.

The Tokyo Dome eats up as much as 6,000 kw of electricity during games in the summer.

According to a Giants official, the team plans to cover anywhere from 20 to 30 percent of its electricity needs with the self-generator, while enforcing other power saving measures at the stadium like dimming the floodlights.

"We're trying to use as little of Tokyo Electric's power as possible through the private generator along with other measures," the official said. "We should be able to play the games, without being criticized."
