Yomiuri Giants outfielder Alex Ramirez has pledged $1 million to support earthquake relief efforts in Japan, his club said Tuesday.

The two-time Central League MVP will also donate medical supplies through a doctor friend.

In a related move, the Giants players’ union has decided to collect donations around Suidobashi railway station in Tokyo on Wednesday night. A total of 15 players are scheduled to take part.
