EZURUM, Turkey (Kyodo) Nobunari Oda held onto his lead from the short program to win the men's figure skating gold medal at the Winter Universiade in Turkey on Wednesday.

Oda also had the best score in the free program and triumphed with 223.15 points, almost 20 points clear of second-place Sergey Voronov of Russia. Daisuke Murakami took the bronze with 202.83.

"I have achieved my target of winning the gold medal but that was my worst performance of the season," said Oda, who finished second at the Grand Prix Final in Beijing in December.

The gold medal was Japan's second of the Jan. 27-Feb. 6 Universiade following Aguri Shimizu's Nordic combined skiing win.
