Japan midfielder Daisuke Matsui has drawn interest from French first-division clubs Montpellier and Valenciennes, an official of his French second-division outfit Grenoble said on Sunday.

Neither club has made an offer for his services but both have approached Grenoble over a possible transfer, the official said on condition of anonymity.

The 29-year-old's four-month loan deal at Russian Premier League club FK Tom Tomsk expired at the end of last month, as part of a three-year contract with Grenoble through 2012.

Matsui played a key role in helping Japan reach the second round of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Last week, Matsui pulled out of the ongoing Asian Cup in Qatar because of pulled muscles in his right thigh.

In the 20-team French top flight, Montpellier is currently in seventh place and Valenciennes 16th.
