Taiwan has proposed resuming the annual Asia Series this year, a senior Nippon Professional Baseball official said Monday.

Taiwan intends to host the series in November, NPB secretary general Kunio Shimoda said upon his return from an Asia Series committee meeting in South Korea.

The Asia Series was inaugurated in 2005 featuring the club champions from Japan, South Korea and Taiwan plus an All-Star team from China.

It was last played in 2008 and has been replaced by a game between the winners of the Japan Series and the Korean Series the past two years because of the tournament's financial difficulties.

Japanese baseball officials plan to discuss whether the country's participation in the Asia Series is possible when they meet on Jan. 20.
