OSAKA (Kyodo) Newly promoted Cerezo Osaka said Sunday midfielder Shinji Kagawa has agreed to a one-year deal to stay with the club.

Urawa Reds, FC Tokyo and Dutch first-division side VVV Venlo had shown interest in acquiring the 20-year-old as his contract with Cerezo expired at the end of the 2009 season.

"I've made this decision because I believe I can be a better player by playing for Cerezo this year," Kagawa said through the club. "I couldn't decide for a long time whether to go overseas or stay with Cerezo. I feel sorry for Cerezo fans for that."

He was top scorer in the J. League second division with 27 goals last season.
