Former Japan striker Masashi Nakayama will join Consadole Sapporo, the J. League second-division club said Wednesday.

Nakayama, who received offers from six different clubs after being released from Jubilo Iwata last month, had narrowed down his choice to second-division club Roasso Kumamoto and Sapporo by last Saturday.

The 42-year-old called a Kumamoto official earlier in the day to decline their offer. He appears to have chosen Sapporo due to their superior health care facilities.

Nakayama is the first division's all-time top scorer with 157 goals.
