Kamei propels Giants past Carp in 11th inning


Yoshiyuki Kamei hit a pair of two-run homers, including a “sayonara” blast in the 11th inning as the Yomiuri Giants beat the Hiroshima Carp 6-4 on Tuesday.

Kamei tied the score 4-4 with his first shot of the afternoon off Hiroshima closer Katsuhiro Nagakawa in the ninth and gave an encore performance with drive to right off Ryuji Yokoyama two innings later at Asahikawa Starffin Stadium.

“I was able to hit those homers in just the right situations. Today’s game was really important for us and I’m glad we could get the victory. Tomorrow we’ll shoot for another win,” Kamei said.

Masato Akamatsu and Soichiro Amaya hit back-to-back homers to give the Carp a 4-2 lead in the seventh before the Central League-leading Giants rallied.

At Yokohama Stadium, Ryoji Aikawa hit a tiebreaking double with two outs in the top of the 10th as Tokyo Yakult rallied past Yokohama for its third win in four games.

Dragons 7, Tigers 0

At Nagoya Dome, Chen Wei-yin pitched a two-hitter for his third shutout of the season and Kazuhiro Wada hit two homers, including a tiebreaking three-run blast, as Chunichi routed Hanshin.

Chen (5-2) struck out 12 and walked none and chipped in with an RBI fielder’s choice in a four-run eighth. He escaped his only jam in seventh when he retired three in a row after allowing a leadoff double by Yamato Maeda.

Tomoya Yagi limited the damage to one unearned run in five innings and Hokkaido Nippon Ham put the game away with a three-run sixth to pick up its 11th win in 12 games.

Yagi (8-1) allowed three hits, struck out two and walked four. Hideaki Wakui (12-4) took the loss. The Fighters moved 21 games above .500 for the first time in three years.

At Kobe’s Skymark Stadium, Teppei Tsuchiya broke a 1-1 tie with an RBI single and Tohoku Rakuten snapped a three-game skid with a win over Orix.

At Fukuoka’s Yahoo Dome, Yuya Hasegawa had a tiebreaking RBI single and Hidenori Tanoue followed with a three-run homer as Softbank broke open a close game on way to a romp of Chiba Lotte.
