Brazilian-born striker Ueslei will retire from soccer, first-division club Oita Trinita said Tuesday.

The 37-year-old Ueslei injured muscles in his left leg in a match against Nagoya Grampus on Saturday but has also cited problems with his family back in Brazil as a reason for leaving.

Ueslei joined Nagoya Grampus in 2000 and also played for Sanfrecce Hiroshima along with Oita. He has scored 124 goals in 217 matches in the top division.

In 2003, he won the Golden Boot award for finishing as top J. League scorer with 22 goals with Nagoya. Ueslei has scored three goals in 14 matches this season with Oita.
