Midfielder Daisuke Matsui is set to move to Grenoble from fellow French first-division club St Etienne, Grenoble's Tokyo-based parent company Index Holdings said Friday.
The 28-year-old Matsui will join compatriot Sho Ito on the team owned by the Japanese company after scoring one goal in 22 matches for St Etienne last season.
"The World Cup is next year. Limited playing time at St Etienne made me think I have to be in action more before the World Cup. I want to play a lot of matches with the new team," Matsui said at a press conference in Tokyo.
