ROME (Kyodo) Ai Sugiyama and Slovakian partner Daniela Hantuchova succumbed in straight sets to Taiwan’s Hsieh Su-wei and Peng Shuai of China in the women’s doubles final at the Italian Open on Saturday.

Hantuchova and Sugiyama, who beat the world’s top ranked pair Cara Black and Liezel Huber en route to the final, went down 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) as Hsieh and Peng claimed their third and biggest doubles title on the tour.

Dinara Safina beat Svetlana Kusnetzova in an all-Russian singles final 6-3, 6-2 to capture her first title since becoming World No. 1.
