ARE, Sweden (Kyodo) Freestyle skier Aiko Uemura found herself on the podium for the second time this winter with a third-place finish in a World Cup moguls event Friday.

Uemura, who topped the qualifying round, scored 24.66 points in the 12-woman final for her first podium finish since winning her eighth career World Cup title on Jan. 24 in Mont Gabriel, Canada.

"I thought I wasn't going fast enough, but I managed to avoid unnecessary mistakes," Uemura said. "I believe this will be a good stepping stone toward the coming events."

Event canceled

HAKUBA , Nagano Pref. (AP) Organizers canceled the men's normal hill event of the Ski Jumping National Championships Saturday due to darkness after windy conditions disrupted the event several times.

Misa Fueki claimed the women's title with 94.5 points after making the longest leap of 83 meters on the K-90 hill for her first victory.

Rieko Kanai took second with 86.5 points after a jump of 79 meters in the women's event, which was decided based on results of the first round.
