SAN JOSE, Calif. (Kyodo) Kei Nishikori advanced to the second round of the SAP Open on Monday, beating Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 7-5, 6-2.

Nishikori came back from 5-4 down in the first set and converted both of his two break chances in the second on the opening day of the ATP event at HP Pavilion.

The 19-year-old will next face the winner of the match between second-seeded Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina and Italian qualifier Andrea Stoppini.
