CHONAN, Chiba Pref. (Kyodo) Shiho Oyama, the 2006 money title winner on the Japan LPGA tour, shot a career-best 64 to take a two-shot lead after the opening round of the Itoen Ladies on Friday.

Oyama hit all but one green in regulation and highlighted her round with five consecutive birdies from the 12th hole en route to a back-nine 30 at Great Island Club.

In-form Mayu Hattori, who won her first career title at the Hisako Higuchi IDC Otsuka Ladies and finished runnerup at the Mizuno Classic the last two weeks, opened with a 66 with six birdies and no dropped shots.
