GOTEMBA, Shizuoka Pref. (Kyodo) Shingo Katayama stole the spotlight from teenage star Ryo Ishikawa in the second round of the Mitsui Sumitomo Visa Taiheiyo Masters on Friday, taking sole possession of the lead after shooting a 4-under-par 68.

Katayama made four birdies in a blemish-free round to reach the halfway point at 9-under 135, one shot clear of Yasuharu Imano, while first-round leader Ishikawa fell three strokes off the pace after an even-par 72 at Taiheiyo Club's Gotemba Course.
