Newly crowned Nabisco Cup champions Gamba Osaka survived a scare to beat second-division Montedio Yamagata 5-3 on penalties in the fourth round of the Emperor's Cup on Wednesday. Goals from Ryuji Bando and Takahiro Futagawa erased a 2-0 halftime deficit but Gamba were unable to see off Yamagata in regulation and the game finished deadlocked at 2-2 after extra time. Bare missed two golden chances to score in normal time for Gamba but he made amends with the decisive spot kick to send Akira Nishino's men into the fifth round.
