FC Tokyo said Monday it has acquired former Japan midfielder Takashi Fukunishi from J. League first-division rival Jubilo Iwata. "I came to Tokyo to help the club win the championship," Fukunishi told reporters.

"FC Tokyo are well-organized and have talented young players, so I'll play to the best of my ability while helping other players to realize their potential." Fukunishi, a member of Japan's 2002 and 2006 World Cup squads, has played 64 matches and scored seven goals for his country, but has not been picked since Ivica Osim took over from Brazilian coach Zico last July.
