Nagoya Grampus Eight on Monday named Dutchman Sef Vergoossen as the new manager of the underachieving J.League first division club.

The 58-year-old Vergoossen, a former manager of Belgian club Racing Genk, was in charge at Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates this season.

He has been given a one-year contract and will be unveiled by Nagoya on Wednesday.

Hitoshi Nakata had been acting as caretaker manager since Nagoya fired Brazilian manager Nelsinho in September after a string of poor results.

Nagoya finished 14th in the 18-team first division this season, just four points clear of the relegation zone.
