Toshihide Funabiki led off the 10th inning with a double and Yuya Hirai followed with a game-winning bases-loaded single Monday, lifting Kanzei to a 6-5 walkoff victory over Takaoka Shogyo at the national high school baseball championship.

After Funabiki moved to third on a fielding error and two walks loaded the bases, Hirai singled to left-center at Koshien Stadium as the Okayama Prefecture school claimed the first "sayonara" win at this summer's tournament.

Hirai went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 13-hit attack, helping the Okayama school into the second round.

In other games, Osaka Toin rallied rallied to beat Kasukabe Kyoei of Saitama Prefecture 9-7; Kyoto Gaidai Nishi beat tournament newcomer Komono of Mie Prefecture 4-1; and Fujishiro of Ibaraki Prefecture defeated Fukuoka school Yanagawa 3-2.
