Superflyweight boxer Seiji Tanaka, who lost in a 10th-round technical knockout in a Japanese title match Sunday, died in an Osaka hospital Friday evening, boxing sources said. He was 28.

Tanaka fell unconscious in the dressing room after making his first title defense last weekend against Nobuo Nashiro at IMP Hall in Osaka. He was carried to hospital, where he underwent brain surgery for a subdural hemorrhage four days later.
