New York Yankees outfielder Hideki Matsui went 2-for-3 against 2004 Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana in a preseason game with the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.

Matsui, who batted cleanup and in the designated-hitter spot, hit a single to right and beat out an infield hit to the shortstop against the southpaw. The Yankees won 5-3.

In Kissimmee, Fla., lefty Kazuhisa Ishii missed his first scheduled start since he was traded to the New York Mets as their game against Atlanta was rained out.

In Surprise, Ariz., Shigetoshi Hasegawa allowed one unearned run with a walk and a hit over three strong innings in the Seattle Mariners' 8-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Ichiro Suzuki, who is currently on a 16-game hitting streak, took a day of rest.
