Japanese teenage table tennis star Ai Fukuhara put up a brave fight before eventually going down 4-2 to Hong Kong's Tie Yana in the singles final of the Women's Asian Cup on Sunday.

World No. 32 Fukuhara stormed into the final after crushing 12th-ranked Lau Sui Fei of Hong Kong earlier in the day but was unable to reproduce the same form in the final as ninth-ranked Tie prevailed 12-10, 11-7, 9-11, 8-11, 11-2, 12-10 for her first Asian Cup title.

Fukuhara is set to join Chinese club Liaoning.
