Daniela Meuli of Switzerland outraced American Michelle Gorgone in the final Friday to win the women's parallel giant slalom title at a World Cup snowboarding meet in Hokkaido, northern Japan.

Tomoka Takeuchi, the only Japanese competitor who advance past the qualifying round in either the men's or women's event at Makomanai ski course, was beaten by world champion Meuli in the quarterfinals and finished seventh.

It was Meuli's fifth victory this season and the 14th overall in her career.

In the men's parallel giant slalom, Siegfried Grabner of Austria won top honors for his eighth career victory in a World Cup event.
