PARIS – Japan’s Fumie Suguri finished third in the women’s short program after failing to execute a triple jump at the Trophee Bompard on Friday.
Suguri, the winner at last season’s Grand Prix finale, made a costly mistake when she turned only once on her triple and finished with a score of 51.40 points ahead of Saturday’s free program. Joannie Rochette of Canada took the lead with a score of 55.64 while Carolina Kostner of Italy stood second. In the men’s program, Japan’s Daisuke Takahashi placed third with a near flawless performance behind leader Johnny Weir of the United States and Skate Canada winner Emanuel Sandhu. Weir took a substantial lead with 75.90 points.
