Mongolian grand champion Asashoryu claimed his second straight autumn single-day tournament title after beating countryman Asasekiryu and Takanowaka in the final round at Nagoya Sports Complex on Sunday.

Asashoryu, who failed to win a fifth consecutive Emperor's Cup at the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament last month, disposed of rival Kotomitsuki with an overarm technique to set up a showdown with the winners of the two other blocks.

Asasekiryu and Takanowaka, who defeated ozeki Musoyama earlier in his block, were shoved out by the yokozuna, allowing Asashoryu to win his third overall title at the tourney.
