KITAHIROSHIMA, Hokkaido – Thailand’s Chawalit Plaphol clung onto his lead at the ANA Open on Saturday after a helter-skelter round of 2-under-par 70, while Toshimitsu Izawa moved back into contention with a third-round 67.
Chawalit had seven birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey on his way to a 15-under 201 total at Sapporo Golf Club’s Wattsu Course in Hokkaido, standing one stroke in front of Y.E. Yang of South Korea, who shot a 69. Chawalit, winless in his seven-year career on the Japanese tour, picked up two shots through seven holes but a pulled drive on the ninth led to a double-bogey 7 as he made the turn in 36.
