Takeshi Matsuda won the men's 200-meter butterfly to bring Japan its first gold medal on Sunday, the fourth day of the World University Games in South Korea's Taegu.

Matsuda, a Chukyo University student, clocked 1 minute, 57.44 seconds to set a meet record.

Takashi Nakano and Daisuke Kimura placed second in the men's 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke, respectively. Meanwhile, Japan finished second in the rhythmic gymnastics team competition.
