Overnight co-leader Toshimitsu Izawa put last week's disappointment of missing out on a place at the British Open behind him as he claimed his first title in almost two years at the Japan Golf Tour Championship on Sunday.

Blowing his lead on the final day of last week's Mizuno Open cost Izawa his ticket to the July 14-20 major at Royal St. George's Golf Club in England.

But the 35-year-old from Kanagawa Prefecture made amends at Shishido Hills Country Club as he carded a 2-under-par 69 to seal a one-stroke victory over New Zealand's David Smail and Tadahiro Takayama in a nail-biting final round.
