I appreciated Peter Thomson's Oct. 21 letter, "Bad month to start a new job." My daughter has been a loyal employee of the Nova corporation for the past two years. For the past nine weeks she has not received a paycheck, yet she has faithfully gone to work each day. This has enabled Nova to keep her office open and honor the contracts of its students. However, Nova has not honored these teachers, many of whom are now near desperation. They have been told over and over again that their paychecks were to arrive on a certain day.

Where is the outcry from the Japanese press and from the labor ministry over the mistreatment of these international teachers? Now, a number are facing eviction because rent that was deducted from their paychecks was never paid to their landlords. They will soon become homeless without money in a country thousands of miles from their homes. Does anyone care? What can they do to get the emergency help, housing and food that they all will soon need?
