North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was set to arrive in Beijing on Tuesday, making his debut on the multilateral stage the following day at a military parade overseen by Chinese leader Xi Jinping and attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kim left Monday aboard his private armored train, the North’s official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported, for the roughly daylong journey from Pyongyang. He was accompanied by senior officials, including North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui.

He crossed into China around dawn Tuesday, the North’s Rodong Sinmun daily said. Kim is expected to arrive in Beijing later in the morning.
