A 40-year-old woman has died after a possible knife attack in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward on Monday afternoon, and a male suspect who had fled the scene was later detained at Haneda Airport, according to media reports.

An emergency call was made shortly after 1:30 p.m. reporting that the self-employed woman of South Korean nationality was lying bleeding on the ground in the Nozawa area of the ward.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found slash wounds around the woman’s neck that appeared to have been caused by a knife, according to reports by NHK. She was taken to the hospital but died.

According to investigative sources, the woman had gone to police early Friday morning, stating that “I tried to break up with my boyfriend, but it has led to trouble.”

A South Korean man, reportedly her partner, had come to visit her in Japan from South Korea. He had been questioned by police previously in regards to the woman’s claims.

Witnesses reported seeing the man in a black T-shirt and long trousers fleeing the scene on foot toward the highway near National Route 246. He was found at Haneda Airport and is currently detained on suspicion of murder.
