A 40-year-old woman has died after a possible knife attack in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward on Monday afternoon, and police are pursuing a man who fled the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, according to media reports.

An emergency call was made shortly after 1:30 p.m. reporting that the woman, who was a South Korean national and self-employed, was lying bleeding on the ground in the Nozawa area of the ward.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found slash wounds around the woman’s neck that appeared to have been caused by a knife, according to reports by NHK.

Witnesses reported seeing a man in his 20s to 30s in a black T-shirt and long trousers fleeing the scene on foot toward the highway near National Route 246. Police believe he may have known the woman, and are pursuing him on suspicion of attempted murder.
