Fujikyu Railway is considering taking legal action over a dance video posted on social media that features people who appear to be foreign tourists performing in the middle of a train.

“We will not tolerate any dangerous or disruptive behavior in our vehicles, or any behavior that interferes with the safe operation of our trains,” the Yamanashi Prefecture-based railway operator said in a statement Wednesday.

The company, which connects Otsuki Station to popular tourist destinations such as Mount Fuji and Fuji-Q Highland amusement park, revealed that they had reported the video to the relevant social media platform and asked to have it taken down. It also filed a police report.

According to the railway operator, a group of around 10 people boarded the train at Fujikyu-Highland Station on Oct. 16 and filmed themselves dancing onboard before they got off at Otsuki Station.

The video, made by a group that appears to be a dance troupe based in New York, features the dancers sliding on the floor and asking for a hand from nearby passengers, and breaking into a dance in between the people onboard the train.

Many of the other passengers in the video are seen covering their faces or moving to the side to avoid the dancers. Fujikyu Railway apologized for any discomfort and anxiety that other passengers may have experienced due to the behavior seen in the video.

On Thursday, the phrase “nuisance dance video” went viral on social media platform X, with users up in arms about the video as well as similar ones posted by the same group showing them performing on other trains and in the middle of crowded public spaces in Tokyo's Asakusa and Shibuya districts.

The behavior of foreign tourists has caused controversy in recent months.

Earlier in October, a Chilean woman was criticized for filming herself doing pull-ups using a torii shrine gate, for which she later apologized.
