Japan further eased its border restrictions on Wednesday, allowing people arriving from 98 countries where the coronavirus risk is deemed to be low to be exempt from testing at airports and quarantine.

The cap on daily arrivals, which includes Japanese nationals and returning foreign residents, was increased to 20,000 from 10,000. The figure has quadrupled in three months from 5,000 on March 1.

The eased measures come as the country plans to open its borders to inbound tourists on guided tours on June 10.
